The Writing Teacher Workshop | Years 4-8

Dr Helen Walls with Freedom Literacy

Freedom Literacy is thrilled to be hosting Dr Helen Walls, The Writing Teacher, for two one-day workshops.

This high-quality professional learning will support all teachers’ writing instruction. It is especially timely for teachers who have shifted towards a Structured Literacy approach and are now bolstering their writing practice.

Cost includes the resources noted below, morning tea and lunch.

About the event

Teaching of Writing: The ‘what’ and ‘how’ of effective instruction.

Dr Helen Walls will unpack ‘the science of writing’ and its implications for teaching practice. She will summarise empirical research into writing development, and share a set of methods to increase student motivation and accelerate progress. We want you to leave feeling confident to deliver a fun and effective programme – the very next day.

All attendees will receive a folder of key resources, including guides for teaching handwriting and sentence structure, Helen’s spelling programme, and a copy of her scope and sequence of compositional goals.

This will be a fun and interactive day. You are invited to bring writing samples from the students you work with so that we can tailor our discussion to the particular needs of your classes.

We hope to see you there.
